Den perfekta Rock'n'roll kameran

Jag har ett problem. När jag engagerar mig mycket i ett ämne upptar det till sist all min tid. För att balansera upp mitt sociala engagemang har jag återupptagit mitt rockfotande och recensionsskrivande. Det är inte allt för ovanligt att socialt engagerade dokumentärfotografer rör sig mot musikens värld. Kanske är det för att vi kan identifiera oss med musiker och deras kringflackande livsstil?



Genom historien har vi fått se många duktiga dokumentärfotografer som har vänt sina kameror mot scenen. Exempelvis följde och dokumenterade Robert Frank många band och det mest kända av dem är Rolling Stones som han tog många bilder på och även gjorde en dokumentärfilm om. (Jag upptäckte förövrigt Robert Frank via the Rolling Stones men det är en helt annan historia). Till skillnad från renodlade rockfotografer tycker jag mig se en betydligt större närvaro i dokumentärfotografernas konsertbilder. Det känns oftast som om de trängde in under skinnet på dem som de fotograferar. Jag tror att det berodde på att många dokumentärfotografer var bra på att läsa människor och att de jobbade med sina väl invanda 21 och 50 mm objektiv som tvingade dem att vara mer aktiva och närvarande i sitt fotograferande.



Bilderna i inlägget tog jag på Blindsides konsert på Gullbrannafestivalen tidigare i år. Den konserten var nog den svåraste som jag fotograferat i modern tid. När jag fotade ett annat band tidigare samma dag kunde jag med lätthet köra på 3200-6400 ASA och bländare 5,6. Med den konserten i vetskap tog jag med mig samma utrustning till Blindsides konsert. Problemet var att det var betydligt mörkare på Blindsides konsert. Ser man till hur mycket jag fick lätta upp bilderna låg jag oftast på 25 600 ASA vilket är ungefär dubbelt så mycket som kamerans egentliga smärtgräns. Men bilderna är å andra sidan inte brusigare än exempelvis en Tmax 3200 film. 



Att det var såpass mörkt under Bindsides konsert tror jag har att göra med att nyare ljusteknik användes på festivalen och det var svårt för teknikerna att "blanda" till det rätta ljuset. Men å andra sidan finns det riktigt bra motmedel mot dunkla konsertlokaler idag. Sonys nya A7s lär gå att använda på 64.000 ASA med gott resultat. Någon vänlig kameratillverkare (Cosina) får gärna trycka in den sensorn i en mätsökarkamera, det skulle i vart fall bli den perfekta Rock'N Roll kameran tillsammans med en 21 och 50mm!

I'm a documentary photographer who like to work among people on the streets. Therefore I don't really care about the sometimes infected debate about what street photography is and what it's not. The meaning of the Yiddish title Bei mir bist Du shejn are; "You are beautiful in my eyes". I believe that every human are beautiful in the eyes of God and that we are constantly subjected to His unconditional love.

The sensor in my Leica M8 is broken…

My Leica M8 which is upgraded to M8.2 standard is my favorite camera. It works like a dream and the picture quality is stunning. Even if it´s just a 10 megapixel camera with a crop factor of 1.3 the picture quality is almost as good as my bulky fullframe 16,7 megapixel 1Ds Mark II. Leica M8 is really a cheap and good entry to those who prefer digital rangefinder cameras and you can find a second hand Leica M8 for around 1200 Euro (10.000 SEK).


The morning has broken at Mount Sinai.

The sad thing about it is that my M8 has one big disadvantage. The right corner of the sensor is broken (see the illustration below). I can still use the camera either if I crop the image to 4/3-format or if I use the clone stamp to clone away the affected area in the image. But I hope that I will be able to send the camera to the factory in Solms for repair in the future. I think that it will cost me nearly 700 Euro (6000 SEK) to fix the problem with the broken sensor. First I have to find me a job so that I can afford the repairment of the camera.
