Very poor image quality
By John
I just received this lens today after a long wait and it is on its way back. The lens has to be bad because at f8 and f11 the images are completely out of focus. I setup the camera on a tripod with my Sony A7R111, switched off the lens stabilization. I took a set of exposures at f4, 8, 11, 16, 22 at zoom ranges of 24mm, 70mm, and 105mm. I did one set with manual focus and another with auto focus. I did this test six times and every test showed f8 and f11 completely blurred out. F4 was the sharpest of the entire group. I really wanted this lens but for now I will wait and see what other reviews have to offer. "

The softest focus lens in my inventory.

VERIFIED BUYER
Very disappointed in this lens for the price point. Every Nikon and Canon lens I own is much sharper. This may be a out of family Sony lens and plan to shoot more test shots before I return it. The Sony A7RIII is not the problem since it works really well with my other lenses."

Faulty & sometimes blurry shots.
By Charlie
I've came from Canon 6D and 24-105 f4 with always sharp photos. Now moved to Sony A7RII. I ditched the fotodiox adapter with Canon lens because it always focus hunts. I've got this lens first day and sometimes the lens ring would be stuck at distance 40.. and wouldnt go down to 24 no matter how hard I would turn the lens. Sometimes it takes a while to focus, unlike my Canon which is a lot faster. "

First copy defective. Had to return it.January 10, 2018

Sadly, I had to send mine back - it was badly decentered - in the right side corner was a blur at focal lengths and all apertures. Otherwise, the image quality was OK, not mind blowingly great, but good enough for this type of room. Comparable to the Canon and Nikon I've owned in this range. If it hasn't been decentered I would have kept it. One very nice thing about it - the sun/light stars are pretty great. I'm on the fence whether to get another copy or hold out until the spring to see if Sigma releases an EF version of their 24-105.

Mixed feelingsDecember 19, 2017
Style: Lens Only
I have mixed feelings about this lens.
On one hand, it's pretty sharp ( especially in the center), have nice zoom and focusing rings, creates beautiful bokeh.
On the other hand, focusing on my Sony A7 has been a nightmare, especially in low light. The lens is constantly hunting for a focus even when trying to focus on pretty contrasty objects.Even on a very bright sunny day I had a lot of hunting issues with this lens.
When it does lock on the subject the point of focus is inaccurate 90% of the time. I found myself focusing manually very frequently, I just can't trust this lens to do a good job.
I don't know if I've got a bad copy or it's an issue that can be solved with the firmware update. I'll give it another try for couple of weeks but if there's no fix to it I'll send it ba

I feel sorry for the poor guy, who had reservedDecember 5, 2017
Style: Lens Only
I had reserved this lens from my local camera dealer and was one of the , I thought, lucky ones to be on the list to receive one of the first 6 lenses, which arrived at the dealer yesterday. When I received their phone call, I quickly traveled to the store, bought and brought the lens home without opening the box. At home, to my horror, I found the lens was defective and would not focus on my new A7RIII. I rushed back to the dealer, who confirmed the defect. Since the other 5 lenses were reserved, it took the dealer some time to finally give me one of them. I feel sorry for the poor guy, who had reserved, but might have, now, to wait.
