Well, I have my Kodak 14n since December 2003. First I was not excited at all (before I had Nikon D1x).Now this camera is pretty good especially after new firmware 4.5.5.; for me rich blacks are very important, I hate when they are kind of grey. You need to remember that this camera was created mainly for studio photography.
Under strobe lighting everything is just perfect. I use only ISO 80, normal noise reduction, low sharpening, product look (camera settings). THEN, you need to work a bit in post production with your photographs. If you really good with Photoshop you'll get everything you want. I have very good results with 14n + Photoshop CS.
Since I shoot lots of beauty/fashion editorials I just love the skin tones you get with 14n (with Nikon D1x all colors are very saturated). Nikon D1x used mainly for reportage photography, while Kodak 14n is perfect for STUDIO PHOTOGRAPHY (or good lighting conditions on location). I recommend doing tests to achieve what you want and you'll succeed. It's not that much about the camera, but about the one who's behind the camera.

I would like to add that the Kodak are also great for fashion work. Skin tones, color and resolution are not comparable to any other DSRL, including the last Canon.
There is a bit of limitation by the focusing speed sometime, but still is better than manually focusing a Mamiya RZ a Contax or an Hassy, which are normally used for fashion work.
Moiree can be sometime an issuse, but so it is for all the Canon above 11mp and even more for the digi backs.
Buffer size there is no equal yet, apart for the coming D2x. Large buffer size while shooting fashion is like gold.
1.7 fps of the Kodak, in most of the cases are more than adequate for fashion.
Beside all that, I'm some one that likes a lot and owns Canon as well and I'm currently working many days a months with the 1Ds (because my client provide me that body)for fashion. The 1ds is a great camera to use, it handle like a Prada glove ( a bit heavy one) and it is absolutely reliable, but if some one is looking for a great file to work with (below 400 iso) the Kodak is the way to go.
