Hello!

I am sorry for writing in English - given that my Swedish is not there yet, I felt more confident. I will appreciate any input as I am freaking out.

I got a new A7 IV with Sony's 14mm and a 200-600mm from Cyberphoto (in person) just 2 weeks ago. This is the 3rd camera I have bought from them. I didn't really use it out of the house until yesterday as even by changing lenses in-house, I got some dust on the sensor. I took the camera for dust cleaning and paid ~800 SEK for it. It was not completely clean, so I took it back again and they cleaned it.

I finally found time to go out with the 200-600mm today. So far, I used it in the house - with the lens hood - to check that it was working and to check for sensor dust after the camera cleaning. Before leaving the house, I went to install the arca foot I bought from CP I flipped the lens to check the front element as I wanted to use my rocket blower to remove any dust before heading off. This was the first time I checked the front element up closed. To my horror, I noticed a number of marks (most circular) on the front element. They are as if the coating has pilled off as they are visible only under direct LED light. There is even slight dust inside the lens. Otherwise, the lens is and was delivered packed as brand new. I am very disappointed with these marks, to say the least. My sambo can testify even that I never took it out of the house, banged it against anything, or otherwise mishandle it.

Given that I used it inside the house (I mentioned this to CP when I took the camera for cleaning), am I still covered by the right of withdrawal or any other rights? Any suggestions on how to approach this?

I am sorry for all of my rumblings but I am not sure of all of my consumer rights in Sweden - if it was the UK, it would fall under the distance sale act probably. Ideally, I want the lens replaced, not refunded.

Hey!

Pictures would help in determining what the marks are.

Dust on the sensor and on the lens is inevitable, you’ll be a lot happier not letting it bother you. The lens especially can hold quite a lot of dust before it’s noticeable on your photos.

You have a 14 day period when you can refund items purchased online. If the marks are indeed a manufacturing fault you have a one year warranty.

Hej! Thanks for the reply.

I tried to take photos of the marks, but I failed. The marks are really only visible under light and at some angles. I don't see them as scratches. At least not from any impact damage.

For the sensor, indeed. I used to clean my sensor back in D90 and D700 days, but I never had any sensor dust issues in my 6 years of m4/3 and only once in 3 years as a Fuji user so I felt 'out of practice.' Normally, I don't mind dust inside/on lenses but given the dust issues, I thought to blow off any before mounting the camera... but you are right. I better 'relearn' to live with it than try to clean it.

My 14 days period was yesterday. I think CyberPhoto offers 30 days, so I hope they honour that.
