Consider this elements before you shoot a green screen to avoid frustrations.
1. the screen should be as less reflective as possible (there are special paints and materials for that)
2. the screen color should be as saturated as possible and as pure green as possible
3. the light in the screen should be soft and absolutely even, the more even the better
4. avoid any kind of marks or wrinkles in the screen
5. much better if you use daylight to lit the whole scene (about 5600K)
6, try to use a camera that can record at least 4:2:2 chroma subsampling
follow this steps to lit the scene
1. put the light on the screen without the subject and make it very even
2. adjust your camera setting so the screen value is around 60 IRE, that two parameters shouldn't be changed at all from now on
3. put your subject in front of the screen as far away as possible for your scene to avoid shadows aver the screen and most important spills (reflection of the green over the subject)
4. lit your subject to your taste considering that the background and camera settings shouldn't change
5 if you have too much spill you can always use a magenta filter on the backlight to diminish its effect (all the good software keyers has a despill controls but the less spill the easier the keying)
6. always film a clean plate (the screen without the subject) that can help you out in case of panic to fix your chromakey
7. avoid as much as possible loose thin hairs as they are very difficult to key (specially if you are not using a high end camera with a good chroma subsampling)
8. if you can take the screen out of focus to soften it (shallow depth of field) it will be much better and easier the postproduction
9. shoot
10. don't expect to do a perfect key in one pass, most of the times you need to key several parts of the image and combine them together as a perfect screen is very difficult to obtain.
if you follow this i promise you will save tons of time and frustration.
all the best!!
