How does the image sensor-shift mechanism of the Super SteadyShot function works?
Camera-shake detection is performed by angular speed sensors. The Super SteadyShot function is performed by shifting the image sensor (two dimensional) along the X and Y axes to balance the shake.

How fine is the effect of the Super SteadyShot function?
The Super SteadyShot technology lets you shoot with shutter speeds up to 4 steps slower than you can with digital cameras without such technology, which helps you capture better images in a variety of shooting situations. (The effect depends on the lens, the set focal length, and shooting conditions)

How has the Super SteadyShot function been improved?
Improvements in the shake detection algorithm and pickup-device-drive control techniques enable the camera to compensate for hand-shake more precisely than the α100.
DI_FAQ_DSC_ALP_SSS_006_4
In Super SteadyShot mode, what is the maximum shutter speed with hand-held shooting?
This cannot be categorically answered, since it depends on the zoom settings and/or differences among individuals.
Generally speaking, the limit of shutter speed is equal to 1/focal length. The focal length of the lens should be 1.5 times of the focal length of the lens, to have an equivalent to 35mm film camera.
Referential correction effect is equivalent to the shutter speeds to 3.5 stops slower than the above-mentioned.

Is the Super SteadyShot function effective with other manufacturers lenses (except SONY and KONICA MINOLTA lenses)?
The camera realizes highly-sensitive Super SteadyShot function based on various types of data, including the focal point distance from the lens. Lenses from other manufacturers may not be able to obtain sufficient data, thus reducing the effectiveness of the Super SteadyShot function.
The Super SteadyShot function is performed, but the results may not be the same as when using SONY or KONICA MINOLTA lenses

What are the conditions that affect the correct performance of Super SteadyShot?
Super SteadyShot effect may decrease depending on the camera setting and/or difference of individuals:
* When image is magnified. The larger the magnification rate, the more the image is influenced by camera shake. Use of a tripod is recommended.
* When the shutter-release button is pressed right after the camera itself travelled quickly or when the shutter-release button is fully pressed without pressing it halfway down. In both cases, camera shake amount may not be detected correctly.
When using KONICA MINOLTA lenses, Super SteadyShot effect decreases under the following conditions:
* When a lens with Macro switch function is set for Macro shooting.
* When a lens with focus limiter function is used in the focal length other than infinity with limiter setting. (except SSM lenses and Macro (D) lenses)

What does the Super SteadyShot scale indicate?
The Super SteadyShot scale shows the actual detected amount of shake. The effect of the Super SteadyShot function depends on the shutter speed, the focal length and the shooting conditions. With an indication level of one or two, the Super SteadyShot function can compensate the shake. Actual effect varies depending on conditions.

What happens if I want to make a panning shoot when the Super SteadyShot mode is set to on?
An intended big blurring like panning is supported inside the control program for not performing Super SteadyShot system.

What is the advantage of the image sensor-shift mechanism of the Super SteadyShot system compared with competitors' products?
1. The Super SteadyShot function is available for all SONY lenses and KONICA MINOLTA Dynax/Maxxum system lenses (except 1x-3x Macro Zoom lenses).
2. The optical aberration does not appear easily.
3. No special equipment or additional space is necessary in the lenses to enable this system.

Which lenses cannot use the Super SteadyShot function?
All SONY lenses can use the Super SteadyShot function.
In KONICA MINOLTA lenses, 1x-3x Macro Zoom lenses cannot use the Super SteadyShot function. When you use these lenses, turn off the Super SteadyShot function.

Why can't the Super SteadyShot compensation be used when the camera is used with a tripod? (Mentioned in the instruction manual)
Although this rarely occurs, a mis-compensation could be operated. Therefore, we recommend you to disable the Super SteadyShot function when it is not necessary (such as when using a tripod).
