low light high isos D200 or 5D????

I am on the way for a new camera to use it
underwater

I have now a Nikon d70s & Nikons 10,5mm & 16mm lenses...

I dont know the canon ameras as I was all the time a nikon user

The question is Canon 5D or Nikon D200?

Nikon D200
Bang for the buck at half the price,
D200's body is better than the 5D in many ways, although not very important for underwater.



Canon 5D
excellent high ISO performance
advantages of full frame sensor


what i need is

Low light & low contrast AF focusing
Sharp images in High ISOS
easy to use manual white balance...
AF sytem that really hount and follow the subject
High quality lenses

so what are you thinking??

Vad jag förstår så är det önskvärt med vidvinklar för många undervattensfotografer. Med en fullformatssensor har du tillgång till de "gamla" vidvinklarna, men med tanke på att du redan har en 10,5mm och 16mm så behövs kanske inte så mycket mer? Och att du får betala bra mycket mer för att köpa en 5D jämfört med D200 gör att känns det som en dyr affär att byta system och köpa nya objektiv.

Bra objektiv finns till bägge systemen och vitbalans har varit lätt att använda på alla de kameror jag fingrat på. Så frågan är om skillnad i AF och kvalitet vid höga ISO-tal är värd denna investeringskostnad. Det kan inte jag svara på men om ett eller två år finns nya kameramodeller och därmed ser världen annorlunda ut. Jag skulle ha väldigt starka skäl för att själv göra ett sådant kostsamt byte.

How right you are....!!!

Om skillnad i AF och kvalitet vid höga ISO-tal
är extrem så är det värd denna investeringskostnad.

Men jag är också vacksam & vänta tills bådda kameras har använts untervaten

Jag trör att om bodda ska inte leverera betydlig bättre bilder untervaten så ska jag stanna med min nikon d70 & vänta på nästa ännu bättre modeler

I use a Nexus D70s housing compatible with Nikon D70 or D70s & a NEXUS FP-120-7 mineral glass dome port ( 120mm diameter, True hemispherical) Lenses; Nikon 10,5mm & Nikon 16mm
Most off ther time i use the 10,5mm

You can use it untill 80 meters deep
but i have never try it becauce I freedive when I take UW photos. I have test it to ca 30meters without problem

Now Money.. its expensive ca 30000SEK for housing and dome port.. but is worth it

I will seel this set now becauce i will upgrade to a d200

You can take photos uw in great quality with less expensive cameras

I have started with a Olympus 5050 and i plasitc housing. Still i think that the camera was great for UW...

To go directly to a DSLR of uw using is a big and dancerous step.

Fuji 810 is great to if you like to beginn ...

UW body for Fuji 810 at 300USD, sounds more realistic. That one would go 200 Feet = 60m, more than enough. I know there are som rather cheap UW bodies for DSLR but i dont think those will go very deep. When diving I typically go down to about 18m... Why is it a dangerus step?

The fuji solution lands at about 7000sek. Still some monney though not outrageous. Perhaps shallow freediving with a cheap DSLR UW body is a solution to start with...
