Hej!

I would like to start a photography business in Sweden and there's a few different business types you can start. I intend to start off small, still keeping a separate full time job, then if it works out become a full time photographer.

The two options seem to be aktiebolag or enskild näringsidkare. I wanted to ask what professional photographers here are setup as.

thanks a lot for any help in advance.

Tack!
Richard

Do you have 100 000 SEK, and want to mess with an accountant?

Then go for aktiebolag. The only (?) positive side of aktiebolag in this case is that you don't become personally responsible for eventual fuckups.

Most small time photographers choose enskild firma.

From April you actually only need 50000 SEK to start an aktiebolag -- I suppose most photographers would have equipment worth that much. If you're making good money aktiebolag could be better, but if it's just something on the side I think it's easier to start off as enskild näringsidkare.

Hi Richard.

From your description I would suggest "Enskild firma". I run a business full time since almost 5 years and it is still an enskild firma. It's a very easy way to run a business.

I suggest that you talk to someone at your lokal "kommun". Every "kommun" in Sweden has one or more people that work with supporting the local business in different ways. They can probably set you up with someone that can advise you about how to start your business and which kind of business type that will suit you the best.

Good luck!

Hej!

Thanks for the answers, I really appreciate it. I was fairly sure the enskild näringsidkare was the way to go, so it's good to hear others are using this set up. It would of course be better to have the limited liability of the aktiebolag but it's possible to change to that type, like you say, if it becomes something bigger than just 'on the side'

tack så mycket"
Richard

When You register as enskild näringsidkare I would recommend You to register the predicted revenue as 0.

When You see how Your business goes You will then contact the tax office and register a new predicted revenue.

The reason for this is that you will be debited preliminary tax based on Your estimated revenue which You have to pay even if You don't reach Your predictions.

Before You register, contact skatteupplysningen for further information.

thanks Johan, good advice. I would guess my profit would be zero for probably the first year, but I would hope the revenue would be higher, I'll make sure to be careful what values to put in, thanks for bringing my attention to it.

There's a free business advice service that I will talk with and make sure I understand all the tax requirements etc before I sign the dotted line.

tack!
