dirt on the ccd
This is interesting - a friend of mine - PRO like me - shoots nikon - mainly D100 - after an average of 3 sghootds he has to clean the sensor - and on the D100 you have to use an accessory costing about $90 in the US if you want to do it yourself..
Nikon recomends you turn off the camera every time before you change lenses..
I shoot Canon, my first digital bodies was a couple of D30's 3 years ago (and they still go with me as back ups and I also use them for certain type of images). I have shot more than 100,000 exposures with those bodies and NEVER cleaned them ONCE. And my images are very, very clean - no dust spots.
The only precaution I take is to hold my Canons with the lensmount pointing down when I change lenses. I never turn them off when changing lenses but I take the lenses off and put on the lens and body caps every time I am done with a shoot.
Wonder if this has something to do with the different sensors since Canon is using a CMOS...
