There are two tabs for adjusting image quality in DPP 1.0: one is exlusively for raw files from EOS-1D, 1Ds and Mark II, and it provides the following features:
* Brightness adjustment: This is the same as digital exposure compensation in FVU. The range is +/- 2 steps.
* White balance adjustment: This feature has the same range of adjustments as the WB adjustments in FVU.
* Dynamic range adjustment: This one is similar to the custom tone curve adjustment in FVU, but it's easier to work with.
* Color adjustment: These are Hue and Saturation adjustments. There are 3 choices: Shot Settings, Faithful or Custom. The Custom setting provides sliders for hue and saturation, whereas the other settings are presets. Faithful seems to bump up the saturation in sample images I've played with. Some people might be happy with it, but the control freaks among you will no doubt opt for Custom.
The other image quality adjustment tab in DPP is called "RGB image adjustment," and it can be used with either raw files or converted RGB TIFFs or JPEGs. Here are the options:
* Tone Curve Adjustment: This sounds like the tone curve adjustment on the raw adjustment tab, but it's different. It ties in to an RGB histogram display on the screen that is overlayed on a Curves graph that you can drag manually and adjust numerically for black point, white point and tonal range. There are also slider controls for Brightness and Contrast. Dragging the curve provides the greatest degree of control. Each channel can be adjusted individually, but the default is RGB full image adjustment.
* Color Adjustment: This is like the color adjustment on the raw tab, but it's always effectively custom with individual sliders for Hue and Saturation.
As I said, the RGB Image Adjustments are available for JPEGs and converted TIFFs as well as raw files, and DPP 1.0 is compatible with JPEGs and converted TIFFs from all EOS digital SLRs including 10D, Digital Rebel, D60 and D30 as well as EOS-1D, 1Ds and Mark II.
DPP will be offered for download at or near the date when the EOS-1D Mark II starts shipping. The actual web release date will be controlled by Canon Inc., and when the date is finalized, the information will be posted here.
